Burghfield & Mortimer's Christmas Concert

3rd December 2022

Our Christmas Concert was a fun, festive filled event at St Mary's Church in Burghfield. Some of our Christmas favourites such as Sleigh Ride, Christmas Festival and music from Frozen were joined by music that was new to the band, including Turkey Talk and A Medieval Christmas. There were also a few non-Christmas pieces in the programme, including In the Miller Mood, featuring the sax section and a selection of TV Detective themes. Lots of home made cakes were enjoyed in the interval by audience and band members alike, and a few lucky winners took home some great raffle prizes, including bottles of wine, boxes of chocolates, a Christmas pudding and even a cuddly toy!

Autumn Concert: The Mortimer Revel

15th October 2022

We had a fabulous evening, crammed with exciting fun-filled music in St John's Church as we returned to Mortimer for the first time since 2019. An appreciative audience enjoyed a wide variety of music styles from the expressive Nimrod and Wherever You Are, to Thames Journey and Oregon, which took the audience on river and train journeys, and the toe tapping music of The Dancing Master and the Can Can from Orpheus in the Underworld thrown in for good measure! Some pieces were challenging for the band, but under the admirable direction of Paul Speed we rose to the occasion.

Newbury Bandstand

14th August 2022

Everyone braved intense heat to perform in Victoria Gardens in Newbury. With little shade about, the band squeezed onto the bandstand, the audience sheltered near the trees along the edge of the park, and the ice cream kiosk did a roaring trade in the break! We performed more of our bandstand favourites including James Bond 007, Hootenanny and Beauty and the Beast.

Alton Bandstand

24th July 2022

For the 2nd year in a row we travelled to Alton to perform. It was a very hot day, so we were pleased to be in the shelter of a marquee whilst the audience sat in the shade of the trees all around the park. We also welcomed guest conductor, John, who led the band for the day.

Summer Concert: Magic of the Movies

25th June 2022

The audience was treated to a fabulous evening of film music at Tadley Community Centre on 25th June. Music to enjoy included several pieces from possibly the best ever film composer, John Williams, including Jurassic Park and music from the Tom Cruise film, Far and Away. Animated films were well represented with The Lion King, How to Train Your Dragon and Brave. We also had musicals that had been turned into films, with Mamma Mia, Les Miserables and Into the Woods, and we travelled the world with Out of Africa, Hymn to New England, and then off the Wild West with Moment for Morricone.
For the first time since returning after the pandemic our audience members (and band!) were also able to enjoy refreshments, with home made cakes, and hot and cold drinks in the interval.

Guildford Castle Gardens Bandstand

15th May 2022

Band members made the journey to Guildford in the pouring rain, so we were all very pleased to discover that the rain eased off in time for us to perform during the afternoon. We all squeezed onto the bandstand to make sure we stayed dry. Our hardy audience stayed with us even when the showers returned, and were treated to a selection of music including Out of Africa, Instant Concert, Pirates of the Caribbean and the music from Mamma Mia.

Spring Concert: Travel the World

19th March 2022

We returned to St Mary's Church in Burghfield for our Spring Concert, taking our audience on a trip around the world, with a slight bias towards Ireland to celebrate St Patrick's Day. Our music was a mix of styles, including the tone poem, Finlandia, with its rousing start and beautiful hymn section, the exciting Pirates of the Caribbean, the more gentle tones of Irish Tune from County Derry and finishing the concert with Riverdance.
