South Berks Concert Band is a true community band. Players are drawn from all spheres of the community and membership is open to all. New members are always welcome to try us out. No auditions are held. However, due to the standard of music we play, we recommend that players are at least Grade 6 standard. The best way to find out if we are the band for you is to come along and give us a try! Please let us know if you would like to come to a rehearsal so we can make sure we have music and a chair ready for you.
Vacancies
We currently have space for trumpet/cornet and trombone players to join the band. Please contact us if you are interested. At present we have limited availability to accept new members in other sections but will always consider any requests to join. We are normally happy for individuals to come and try us out for a couple of rehearsals, however you may then be added to a waiting list pending a vacancy should you wish to join.
Rehearsals
We rehearse every Friday evening from 7.45pm until 10.00pm throughout the year, except for August, Christmas & Good Friday. We have a break during rehearsals at about 9pm.
Dress Code
For summer park performances and the occasional 'street' event you will be provided with a blue SBCB polo shirt and blue fleece which can be worn with black trousers. These items are provided once a £10 hire fee has been received.
Indoor concerts are more formal - ladies are asked to wear black trousers or long black skirts with smart single-coloured tops with little or no pattern. Men wear black trousers with either black, white or coloured shirts, depending on the occasion.
Membership Fees
The Band is a non-profit making organisation and all income is either shared with local charities or simply goes to help cover our annual running costs and to purchase new music and equipment. An annual subscription is charged to all members, pro-rata for members joining partway through the year. There is no fee for the first 2 rehearsals but any more constitutes full membership.
